Pro Style Dumbbells - From 5 lbs to 200 lbs - (Sold Individually)

Pro Style Dumbbells are the original fixed poundage "old school" style of dumbbells that became popular in 1960's. Before that, weight rooms would have plates, handles and collars laying all over the place, just waiting to trip someone off their feet. And the user would have spend time assembling/disassembling dumbbells to change to the desired poundage. And because collars didn't "tighten down" on the plates themselves (as with the hex bolts on the pro style version), they rattled and shook when in use.

By the 1980's nearly every gym had multiple racks of these dumbbells lined up (usually in 5 lb increments), with each fixed poundage dumbbell labeled with the corresponding weight making it much more convenient to move from poundage-to-poundage without the need to take anything apart, nor having to conduct a search on the floor for the components needed. The user simply pulled off the dumbbell rack, the poundage they wanted and immediately began exercising - no muss, no fuss.

Pro style dumbbells are the only dumbbell type that is modular - that is, the parts are interchangeable when building them. For example, the same dumbbell handle part number is used to build both a 25 lb dumbbell as well as a 40 lb dumbbell. An entire set from 5 lbs to 200 lbs could be assembled using just 4 sizes of weight plates and 10 different dumbbell handle sizes! There was another big advantage: Shipping. A set of pro style dumbbells could be shipped in pieces, thereby taking up relatively very little space, and then assembled at the user end thus, saving money on freight.

All dumbbells feature steel handles that are chrome plated throughout. Each handle is knurled for a better grip. For dumbbells weighing more than 80 lbs, the handles have a knurl depth somewhat less than lighter weight dumbbells. This lessens the chance of injury to the palm of the hand at higher poundages. Many users going heavy will use lat straps to assist in griping the dumbbell instead of relying on a deeper knurl pattern that may tear the skin in case of accidental slippage.

When ordering, choose between Gray and Black weight plates, Straight or Contoured dumbbell handles, Black End Caps/ Chrome End Caps, or Stock Retaining Washers.

On small dumbbell orders (4 pairs or less) of 150 lbs or more in size, they may go by truck. In this case, the dumbbells will arrive fully assembled with the bolts installed and torqued. Alternatively, we may elect to ship same in multiple small packages via any one of the many carriers we use, in which case assembly will be required by the customer. For dumbbells 120 lbs or less, our prices do not include assembly.

As with all of our dumbbells, they are sold and priced individually. To order 1 pair, simply change the quantity in your shopping cart from "1" to "2" for example.

NOTE: When Pro Style dumbbells (especially heavy ones) are abused by allowing them to hit the floor hard, the bolts can break. We do NOT cover broken bolts as there is no such thing as an um-breakable bolt that can withstand unlimited abuse. We do however, offer the replacement bolts individually so they can be replaced.
